Ian clocks up 30 years in the ministry
On Sunday 12 July our minister Rev. Ian Jones, celebrated 30 years in the ministry . Ian was ordained on 14 July 1979 to the United Reformed Church, Wombourne and Swindon. He remained Minister there until 1984, when he took up post of Minister at the URC, Cotteridge and Bournville in Birmingham. In 1987, he was Minister of the URC Chadwell Health and St Andrews, Goodmayes until he moved to the East Riding in 1998, taking ministerial responsibility at the URC, Elloughton and also Christ Church, Swanland where he remained until taking up post at the Driffield Congregational Church in 2002
Following the service, Ian, a keen gardener and allotment holder, was presented with some Garden Centre Vouchers by the Churches longest serving Member and Deacon, Miss Marion Randall, who thanked Ian for everything he had done for the Church and for Driffield. His wife, Helen, was presented, by the youngest member of the Church, Sam Osborne (5) with a bouquet in appreciation of her support for Ian. The whole Church was then invited back to the Joneses home for lunch.
Peter Osborne, Church Organist, who also presented Ian with an Olive Tree said “Ian is a much loved and valued member of our Church, as are his wife, Helen and son, Aidan” During his time in Driffield he has shown endless enthusiasm and energy for our Church as well as for the town, Churches Together and the Schools. He is well known, loved and respected around Driffield and is especially known for his enthusiastic leading of the singing at the annual switching on of the lights ceremony” He added, “We hope and pray that Ian and Family will spend many more happy years here with us in Driffield”. |
