DRIFFIELD CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

Accessibility

Driffield Congregational Church aims to be as accessible and accommodating as possible to everyone regardless of their age, health or ability.

Comfort

The seating in the main church is fitted wooden pews which all have cushions.  Wheelchairs can be accommodated in some areas and this will be arranged for you by members of the church when you arrive if you need it. On very cold days blankets and hand warmers are distributed to those who need them.

Hearing loop and CD’s

The church is fitted with a hearing loop and CD recordings of every service are available.  Please ask if you would like to borrow one.

Hymn Books

Large print hymn books and bibles are available and some of the songs and talks use the overhead projector.

Communion

A gluten free alternative is served along with the bread.  The wine is a high quality non-alcoholic communion wine.

Parking

The church does not have its own car park but there are two town ones nearby both of which are free of charge.  The road outside church has double yellow lines but it is possible to stop outside the doors for dropping off and picking up.  Holders of disabled parking permits are able to park on the road.

Church Access

There is a small step at the main entrance but on Sunday mornings a ramp is put out to provide level access into the church building.  There are also grip rails at the entrance.  Downstairs there is level access throughout the lounge, kitchen, toilet and main church.  There are steep steps to the upper balcony but this is rarely used.

The Church toilet

Toilets

There is a large accessible toilet fitted with hand rails which also has a baby changing unit.

Disability aids

We have a wheelchair and a walking frame that you are welcome to use on the church premises or to help you from a vehicle into church.  There are always friendly and willing people available to assist you into church  and into a  pew on a Sunday morning.

Children

We welcome babies and children into the church and nobody minds if your baby or toddler is noisy or runs about.

There is a crèche corner at the front of the church where you can sit with your young children while they play with toys during the service.

‘Kiddie bags’ are available also for children to take into their pews and play with the toys in them during the service.  Children are very much part of our church and much effort is made to involve them in the services.

There is plenty of room for prams and pushchairs and there is a baby change unit in the toilet.
